Merge Users for Jira

This app is designed to facilitate the merging of two users into a single account. It is particularly useful for organizations looking to streamline their user management, clean up redundant accounts, and potentially reduce licensing costs. By merging users, you can effectively delete the source accounts while ensuring that all relationships and responsibilities associated with those accounts are transferred to a designated target user.

Key Features

Seamless Transition: Automatically update all relationships tied to the source user, such as Jira issue reporters, assignees, and filter ownership, to the target user.

User Consolidation: Merge two users into one, simplifying account management and reducing clutter.

License Optimization: Reduce the number of active user licenses by consolidating accounts.

Access the app

To access the app from the “App” in Jira tool bar, and in dropdown list, please select “Manage your apps” option.

How to use the app

When you follow the instruction above to get into the feature GUI, click the app “Merge Users for Jira” in the left panel of the “Manage your apps” UI.

When you have the App UI ready, the next step is straightfoward.

Select the “Source user” by clicking the “Source User” user pick field, it allows you to type part of the name to run the smart search and select the the user you are looking for; this is the same for the “Target user” field.

Assignee:

This means to update the assignee of all issues to “target user” from the original value which is “source user”, for example, I have a JIRA ticket DEMO-1, the assignee is “Statistics Page for Jira” user, and by checking “Assignee” checkbox, and run “Merge” will update the assignee value to “Atlas for Jira Cloud” automatically.

Reporter:

This is quite similar with Assignee option, the goal is to update all Jira issues whose current reporter is the “source user”, the “Merge” action will change it to “target user” as reporter for all these matched issues.

Filter:

The owner of the Jira filter will not easily to be updated, particular in a case that if the source user leaves the company, and it causes a big problem that no one is able to maintain the filter, however, the filter may be used by daily used dashboards, in this case, updating the ownership to a different user is critical.

How to check if the update works?

The audit log section will help you keep track of the previous action is successful.
